"Tamar" at Hongkong,
28th June, 1899.

I am desired by Commodore Powell to forward herewith a tracing of Mount Parish, Wanchai, on which is shown by red border Inland Lot 87, held by the Admiralty for 999 years from 1876 by lease dated 19th December 1876.

2. A scheme having been decided on for the erection of an infectious hospital on this hill, and the additional land coloured green being required, the Commodore desires to ascertain, for the information of the Admiralty, the terms under which the addition can be obtained.

3. I beg to point out that the land in question can be of trifling value to any but the occupant of Inland Lot 87, that is the Admiralty. It is too steep for any useful purpose and the erection of an infectious hospital on plot coloured red (as permitted by licence dated 21st November 1898) would depreciate its value still further.

The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary
